Since I began My Self-Love Journey last year, something that has been bothering me. I’ve been writing as “Vintage Yoga” but there hasn’t been any yoga involved. You probably noticed that too, right?
Last August, I was lying awake at 3:30 a.m. unable to sleep because Annie, my “inner roommate” was thinking out loud, very loudly. She was already thinking about 2024! I must give her credit because she gave me an idea on how to move into this new year. Thanks Annie!
This year, My Journey will be more about healing. Working on self-Love was a great tool toward healing my life, and yoga has introduced me to other avenues of healing that have the potential to continue moving me toward becoming my best self.
Yoga made me a believer in the wisdom of thousands of years. For most of my adult life, I’ve suffered from low back pain. The consistent practice of Yoga has helped reduce the incidence of chronic, debilitating pain and enabled me to do things I haven’t been able to do in years. I’ve started running again, Juan and I have been working out together, and in May I will be participating in a Spartan race in Madrid, Spain. (more about that later!)
There are other aspects of yoga that I learned about in my yoga training, such as the chakra system, breathing exercises, and mudras, along with yoga postures. So, that is what the next part of my journey will focus on. That night in August, when I couldn’t sleep the idea began to formulate in my head. “What if I expand upon what I learned in my yoga training to develop a greater understanding about how to heal the mind, the body and the spirit?”
We tend to think wellness is all about the body, but over the past year, I’ve grown to realize that the mind and our emotions are equally important to the process of healing. What I’ve DISCOVERed is that if I’m feeling pain or discomfort, it is my body’s way of trying to tell me there’s something that needs attention.
What I didn’t realize before is how my mindset can affect my physical well-being. And so, that’s the direction I am prepared to take this year.
I’ve learned that much of the healing we need, whether it’s physical, emotional or spiritual, is within our own ability. We were created to heal ourselves. Think about that for a moment…when we get a cut, what happens? We start to bleed. The blood thickens and turns into a scab and stays there covering the injury until…yep! The skin heals itself! What a miracle! Right? Now of course, a more serious injury is going to require some specialized intervention, but for the most part our bodies are made to heal themselves. Even the emotional body, the mind and the spirit.
Years ago, a friend of mine gave me a pretty, little jar candle. On the side it said, “Life is a journey, not a destination.” So, this year I’m beginning a new leg of this journey.
Over the next few months, I will share with you my next journey I'm calling "The Healing Journey." On this journey I invite you to learn along with me to develop an understanding of how our physical well-being is connected to our emotional, mental, and spiritual health. Don’t worry! This isn’t going to be super in depth. But we will explore the interconnectedness of these “four bodies” within our one physical body.
If it sounds like I’m going all woo-woo on you, please, stay with me and give me a chance. When you’ve struggled to know yourself, and suffered from fear, self-doubt, and physical pain, you come to a point in your life when you are open to trying new things that may help you DISCOVER how to heal yourself.
And so, for me this year will be about healing the parts of me that have not yet been healed. This is a journey, not a quick fix.
This year I will explore the seven chakras, or energy centers in the body and I’ll share what I learn. I’ll introduce a different chakra each month and explain how keeping each energy center open allows more energy to flow through your body allowing healing to take place (physical, emotional, mental and spiritual). Once a month I’ll share a yoga practice designed to help you open each chakra. I’ll also share breathing exercises and hand mudras designed to support the healing process. Think of this journey as healing the mind, the body, the emotions, and the spirit.
I invite you to follow along and even participate in this journey. If you have knowledge (or experiences) to share, I am open to receiving what you have to offer. I simply ask you to remember I am a learner. I may get something wrong, but I will do my best to share with you information that is well researched and comes from reputable sources.
I hope I’ve sparked your curiosity. Let’s get ready for this new journey! If this sounds like something you might like to try, start by reflecting on where you are in your journey right now. How satisfied are you with your life? Is there something you want to achieve but haven't yet? Are you feeling stuck? Sick? Tired? Frustrated? Write about it. This will be your starting point.
I'll see you on the road!
With Love & Gratitude,
