Week 8: Tapping into the Feeling of Love

Something I struggled with when I began my own Self-Love Journey was how to get or keep that feeling of love. I kept reading in various books about tapping into love or keeping love open or your heart open and so on. And I found myself wondering what does that really mean?

So, one day not long ago, I really pondered that question. I began by thinking about the times when I feel or have felt open. I imagined what that feels like and then allowed myself to sit with that feeling for as long as I could.

What worked best for me was imagining hugging and loving my 14-year-old cocker spaniel named Lucy. I know that feeling quite well, so it was easy to call to my mind. As I held Lucy in my mind, I allowed my attention to go to my heart, because that is where we feel Love. I focused on my heart and imagined the sensation of my heart opening to let in the love I feel when I am loving Lucy.

Once I DISCOVERed how to open my heart and feel Love, I practiced that as often as I could remember. Each time I tried, I found that I was able to recreate that feeling of Love inside me, and the feeling began to grow stronger. I could feel it more powerfully. Finally, I was able to call up that feeling any time I wanted to. I’ve found that if I go too long without practicing, the feeling isn’t quite as strong. So, it’s like anything else, you do have to practice. The good news is you can do it any time, anywhere and no one will know you are doing it.

I think the reason focusing on Lucy worked so well for me was that she is so sweet and safe. Her love is unconditional and I have no fear of judgment. There are lots of humans I love just as much as I Love Lucy! But my critter brain tends to throw in fear and self-doubt with human love. If you’re not a dog person, imagine the first time you ever held your newborn baby. There is probably no feeling of Love stronger than that. The point is, hold in your mind whatever calls up the feeling of Love you desire. That is the feeling you want to tap into and try to hold onto throughout your day. Especially when you are having a particularly difficult day.

This technique works great when you are feeling agitated or irritated with someone who did or said something that made you mad. It even works when you’re feeling fearful or just not feeling so great.

Try it, check in to your heart Love and see how it can turn your mood around. I think it’s cool how it works!

Be sure to try this at home! Or anywhere else for that matter! And let me know how it goes. If you need help tapping into that feeling of Love, please let me know. I’d be happy to talk you through it.

With Love and Gratitude,

Charlotte
